May this "glass" pass from me...

Hungary is a country of more than a million alcoholics. Related illnesses are among the leading cause of death. Alcoholics and other addicts together with their families are cared for by the Helping Alcoholics Group of the Reformed Church (RIM) and the Blue Cross Group. The aim of the Blue Cross Group is to provide spiritual as well as physical healing to those who look to be cured and wants them to come to know the releasing power of God through faith from binding addictions. Emphasis is also laid on prevention alongside the care for alcoholics.
Between the 19 and 21 September, at the Emmaus House in Kecskemét, central-Hungary nearly seventy people gathered together mainly Blue Cross Group leaders and those experienced healing from alcoholism together with anxious family members of alcoholics at the conference. The purpose of the event was to be strengthener through fellowship and to hear more about the way that leads to freedom from alcohol to eternal life with the help of the Redeemer.
One of the guest speakers, Rev. Dr. Otto Pecsuk, General Secretary of the Hungarian Bible Society explained the reasons behind the initiative of the Year of the Bible 2008 programmes. He said the the Reformed Church of Hungary and its partner churches around the world (USA, Taiwan and Korea) look for opportunities to distribute Bibles and give the Word of God to others as a gift. In the Year of the Bible with the financial help of the partner churches from the Reformed family, mission groups would like to distribute Bibles and the living Word of God to seekers. Mrs Erzsébet Magyar, director of the Reformed Mission Centre together with the Hungarian Bible Society gave Bibles to the Rehabilitating Team of the Blue Cross Group who received them gladly. Quoting Scripture she said: "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness..." Teaching others, helping to live more meaningful lives and improve the quality of life is a treasure. Receiving the Bibles later to be used in healing groups, Mrs Katalin Németh said that just as before, in the centre of their ministry there will always be the Word of God.
