Shared responsibility for the future - Year of the Bible celebration in the lower Carpathians

The Year of the Bible 2008 began as the initiative of the Hungarian Bible Society. The Reformed Church in the Lower Carpathians also joined the thematic year and sent out invitation for the thanksgiving service held on the 23rd November 2008. This was indeed a special and unique event. Majors form Hungarian villages, headmasters from Hungarian speaking schools were all invited. All those who play an important role in the life of the Hungarian speaking community in the Lower Carpathians.

After the opening greetings Gusztáv Bölcskei, the presiding bishop of the Reformed Church in Hungary, shared God's message with us from Job 23 and Psalms 65. The Bible calls us all to find the central person of Scripture who is no other than the Lord Jesus Christ, and focusing our attention on Him we will have a different perception of our everyday challenges as well and will be encouraged even in spite of disappointments and difficulties.

In the name of the board of the Hungarian Charity Organization of the Reformed Church, President Sándor Pál brought greetings. He said that they had bough the Bible that above all other book because it is inspired by God's Holy Spirit.

Ottó Pecsuk, General Secretary of the Hungarian Bible Society, emphasised the importance of the Year of the Bible 2008 programmes and thanked all those who supported this cause all around the world so that Bibles could be distributed freely in many places, even among Hungarians who live in Southern Ukraine.
