BIBLE AND CULTURE
European culture is deeply rooted in the Bible and is greatly indebted to Christian thinking.
As it was said at the opening ceremony of the Year of the Bible 2008 programmes back in January:
"It is just simply not possible to understand most of the arts, music and writings of Europe without a clear understanding of the Bible and its central message."
The aim behind the topical year of 2008 in Hungary and beyond its borders among Hungarians calling it "The year of the Bible 2008" is to raise the profile of the Holy Scriptures and help both church goers and those that don't particularly belong to any churches to recognise the worth and relevance of the God given message to all mankind. The year of the Bible 2008 has already provided ample opportunity for many to speak on Biblical topics from the origins of the books of the Bible to particular stories in it as well as discussing modern approaches to the Bible. They all created a platform on which Biblical issues could be address and the public could also engaged in the on-going discussing of the Bible that we hope will last beyond the end of this topical year.
